EUROPE!!! Part 5

Alright... after a few days in Rome we hopped on our bus and drove the few hours to Pompeii.
Everywhere along the roads are these "AutoGrills" where you can get food, candy, books.. whatever you need on the road. They are really clean and the bathrooms are amazing. Our first AutoGrill stop yielded Pringles and gummy bears so I was a happy camper.

on the road
When we got to Mt. Vesuvius the winds were too strong for us to hike it so they shut down the mountain. We caught a quick glimpse of the view from the base of it before we drove on to Pompeii.
The view of Mt. Vesuvius from Pompeii ^^
Lunch at the Hotel Vittoria in Pompeii (yum!)

This is the main square, or forum, of Pompeii ^^ It's where the everyday hustle and bustle happened
This place looks pretty good for having been completely covered in ash at one time

me and Rutheigh ^^

This is the main street of Pompeii ^^. If you look closely you can see blocks in the middle of the street. That's a makeshift sidewalk for when the rains would flood the streets. Those Pompeii(ians) were so smart!
Marcello (our guide) ^^ He was so animated and he knew everything you could ever want to know about this place.
The market or grocery area ^^
A plaster cast of a victim ^^ and below

Inside the bath house. Check out the creepy face carved into the wall ^^

A fast food restaurant?? haha we don't know for sure... ^^

The U.S.A ^^ or well... maybe?

another plaster cast ^^

The Temple of Jupiter ^^
Statue of Apollo ^^

I believe this is the view looking south ^^

In modern day Pompeii they make hand crafted cameos. I have always loved cameos and had a little obsession with them so this part was very cool for me!
After Pompeii we got back on the bus to head out to Sorrento, which lies along the coast. From there we'd get on a ferry to take us to the Port of Patras. Our driver stopped at this look out so we could get a shot above the beautiful city below. This is me and Aegean sea ^^.

Rutheigh is a weirdo and she wanted to plank this wall for some reason. ^^
Woo! Aegean Sea!!!
We arrived late in the day in Sorrento at the Hotel Il Faro. It was the coolest hotel I have every stayed in! Not saying it was the cleanest or nicest (I mean really we have some CLEAN hotels in the U.S.) but definitely THE COOLEST layout ever!

our funky bathroom ^^ and our room below

Downtown Sorrento was a blast. So many little shops and a band playing all night long. They also had a massive Christmas Tree still up. Above is Nakita and Rutheigh. Below is me and the huge Christmas Tree.

The Pope's favorite gelato shop in Italy is in Sorrento. ^^ They have some interesting flavors if you can't tell...
More pasta for dinner. Not gonna lie... everyone was pretty pasta'd out by this point in the trip.
Nakita!!! ^^

The next morning we got on our ferry and stayed on that ferry until 7 am the next day when we docked in Patras.
our room ^^ yup.. four people slept in this tiny space. And showered. Nicole is going to hate me for this photo but it's the only one I have of our room.

The red and gold reminded me of Titanic and that kind of freaked me out a bit.
me on the Superfast Ferry ^^

The bar on the right and the lounge on the left ^^
It was really stormy and choppy so we were really glad to be on such a massive ferry.
Me, Ann Marie and Brenda ^^ (shortly after I told a nice Italian man that Brenda was 25 and single hahahaha) She was laughing about that one for sure.
playing cards alllllllllll day long ^^ Eli, Glenn, Jamie, Ann Marie and Jenn
OFF the ferry bright and early ^^
and on to our visit to Olympia... in the next post. GGRREEEECCEE!!!

Stay tuned for Post #6 soon.
